March book haul

March book haul

It’s been a while since I bought more than two books at once. Actually, it’s been a while since I bought any books at all..
But last saturday I had a look around a secondhand store close to where I live and I was surprised to find that they had quite a big selection of English, secondhand books. I found five I had been wanting to read for a while and then I had to stop myself.. πŸ˜‰ if not I would have bought them all.

So I walked out with five books for wich I paid the enormous total of € 5.. Yup, each book was one euro. How crazy is that!
I also got one new book from the bookshop where I used to work.
If I can still count that means I have six books, I’m looking forward to reading.

Let’s start with the new one wich I am already reading.
Life after life by Kate Atkinson is the story of Ursula. She’s born with the navelcord twisted around her neck. She dies. This could mean the end of the story only that’s not what happens. Because on that same day, at the same time, Ursula is born and she lives. This is the story of a girl who lives. Again and again and again. I’ve read the first three chapters and I’m curious to see where this story will go. The last sentence of the first chapter really sucked me in. I knew immediately that I was going to love this book.
Next we have You against me by Jenny Downham. I remember ordering this book for the shop when it came out. Let me just write down what’s on the back:
If someone hurts your sister, you seek revenge, right?
If your brother’s accused of a terrible crime, you defend him, don’t you?
When Mikey’s young sister claims a boy assaulted her, his world begins to fall apart.
When Ellie’s brother is charged with the offence, her world starts to unravel.
When Mikey and Ellie meet, two worlds collide.
I can’t help it, I reeeaaally want to know what happens..
Thirdly there’s Before I go to sleep by SJ Watson and I have heard sooooo many great things about this book. It’s about a woman who loses her memory every time she goes to sleep. When she wakes up she’s forgotten her name and everything else. But there is always someone there to help her, to help her remember. But maybe that person only wants her to remember certain things. Maybe she’s hiding information or even lying..

The other three books are classics. I guess you all know them?
I have Nineteen Eighty-four by George Orwell.. A world ruled by ministeries with absolute power. The see everything, they hear everything, they know everything.. Creeps me out πŸ˜‰
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.. Just because..
And last but not least The catcher in the rye by J.D. Salinger. 16-year old Holden is sent away from school and roams around New York. In the book he tells us what he sees but it’s more about how he feels because he’s very troubled.
And that is it…. I’ve got a lot of great books to look forward to, many amazing literary evenings ahead of me. I say evenings because (and I forgot to say this last time) I’ve started a management training, so I’ll be very busy the next six months.
I will write and read as much as possible and if there are subjects or books you want me to discuss, please let me know!
I hope you have a great day!
